Resize an image for an X (Twitter) header

Get your photo to 1500 × 500 pixels and under 2 MB — the size X (Twitter) recommends for a header. It is already set below, and nothing is uploaded.

Private by design

Every transformation runs in your browser. We could not see your images if we wanted to.

A 3:1 strip across the top

The header on an X (formerly Twitter) profile is 1500 × 500 pixels, a 3:1 ratio, with a file limit of 2 MB. It is a wide band that appears behind your profile picture, and like other banners it is cropped differently on desktop and on mobile. Plan for a picture that still works if a little is trimmed from the top, bottom and sides.

Preparing a header

  1. Drop your image on this page. The 1500 × 500 size is already selected and the 2 MB limit applied.
  2. Crop to 3:1, keeping the important part towards the centre.
  3. Download and upload it as your header photo.

What to avoid covering

  • The profile picture overlaps the lower-left. Do not put a logo or text there.
  • Mobile trims the edges. Keep key content away from the left and right extremes.
  • Keep it uncluttered. The header sits behind your name and bio, so a calm image makes the page easier to read.
  • Use a wide original if you can. A photo that is already wide crops with less loss than a tall one.

Staying under 2 MB

A 1500 × 500 JPG is usually a few hundred kilobytes, well under the limit. A PNG with a gradient or photographic detail can be larger; if it is refused, convert it to JPG or compress it to a target size such as 500 KB.
